Some people enter the same events by hand every week. Trash day, weekly meetings, driving kids to activities, monthly payment checks... All of these can be handled by registering them once as "recurring events."
What Are Recurring Events?
Calendar apps have a feature to repeat an event at a set frequency — "every day," "every week on ○ day," "the ○th of every month," or "○ month ○ day every year." Set it once and it automatically appears in your calendar from then on.
"Burnable trash (every Tuesday and Friday)," "weekly team meeting (every Monday at 10)," "rent payment check (25th of every month)" — anyone entering events like these manually can eliminate almost all that entry work just by using recurring events.
A Skeleton Makes Exceptions Stand Out
Once recurring events build a "skeleton" for your schedule, you only need to add that week's unique events (exceptions).
Without a skeleton, every time you open the calendar you're starting from scratch to remember "what's happening this week?" With a skeleton, you only need to notice "what's different from usual" — which dramatically reduces mental load.
Common Recurring Patterns
- Daily: Medication reminders, journal writing, weight tracking
- Weekly: Trash day, standing meetings, kids' activity drop-offs, weekly review
- Monthly: Bill checks, payslip review, regular doctor visits
- Yearly: Birthdays, anniversaries, insurance renewal reminders
Combine with Todos for Habit Tracking
Panda Calendar lets you add Todo checkboxes to recurring events, so it works as a habit tracker too. "Morning stretch (recurring, daily)" — check off when done. Tap on the spot. You can use Panda Calendar alone without a separate habit app.
One-Touch Exception Changes
You can choose "change only this week" or "change all going forward," so spot adjustments are easy too. "Move next Monday's meeting to 3pm just for this week" takes only a few seconds.
If you haven't tried it yet, just test one recurring event. The satisfaction of automating something you used to enter every time is surprisingly gratifying.
Panda Calendar supports recurring events and Todo features — check them on both phone and Android TV.
